Introduction:

Festival of DIGITAL ARTS “Olhares de Outono”
School of Arts
Portuguese Catholic University
Porto Regional Centre

29th OCTOBER TO 3rd NOVEMBER 2007

The basic principle guiding the Centre for Research in Sciences and Technologies of the Arts, at the Portuguese Catholic University (CITAR - http://citar.ucp.pt) is to contribute towards thought and artistic production in the fields of digital arts, audiovisual production, cultural and artistic heritage and musical technologies, and studies into performance and musicology, and to disseminate the results so that they can be available to everyone. Amongst the aspects considered at the CITAR is training, thought and promotion of artistic practice, via contact with creators, researchers and the audience, both in the realm of Porto and on a worldwide scale.

It is within this context that the “Olhares de Outono” event arose in the year 2000 with the aim of promoting the artistic communities in the area of Contemporary Art, focusing particularly on the Digital Arts. It includes workshops, conferences and events encompassing distinct areas such as theory, software development, interactive installation, performance, virtual image, electronic music, interfaces, net.art, etc....

In 2007, the activities chosen for the “Olhares de Outono”, fall within the area of GENERATIVE ART. Generative Art gives artists the possibility of developing ideas and concepts as if they were a genetic code, and of thus generating – as occurs with the genetic code – series of events, images, objects, architecture, music, ambiences; always different and unpredictable, all associated with the initial matrix. This approach is one of the most creative forms of expression in an increasingly complex society where artificial spaces naturally emerge.

This year’s “Olhares de Outono” presents a group of Workshops, Conferences, Masterclasses and Artistic Events to discuss this emerging form of artistic creation.

Access to all events is free and open to the general public.
